Food and Beverage Testing
Northland Laboratories is a full service food testing laboratory. We provide the following testing services to leading food and beverage companies, thereby safeguarding or enhancing their brand equity.

Food Chemistry Testing
Our food chemistry department is renowned for its reliability and accuracy and has been recognized by AOCS for performance in Nutrition Labeling and Cholesterol Testing. Our analytical laboratory services include method validation, nutrition label generation and claim verification, contaminate monitoring, ingredient monitoring, and quality assessment.

Microbiological Testing
Product safety has become the biggest concern for food manufacturers, retailers, and consumers. When they occur, food-borne illnesses receive a lot of media attention and it is therefore critical to ensure that your food products are free of microbial contaminants. Incorporating diligent food-borne pathogen testing and environmental programs into your food quality system helps to ensure your product’s safety prior to its release.

Microbiology laboratory testing is also important in monitoring the quality of your products. Food testing for spoilage organisms and general indicator bacteria can reduce the potential for additional microbial growth and identify any preservative system failure.

Food Sensory Research
The sensory research facility at our Northbrook location specializes in consumer acceptance, discrimination, and descriptive studies. Our sensory team can leverage an extensive consumer database to test any food or beverage product and target market.

Shelf Life Testing
We offer comprehensive shelf life studies to support your food R&D efforts. Our shelf life tests can fully integrate our chemistry, microbiology and sensory testing capabilities to provide a comprehensive view of the quality of your food or beverage product over time.

Consumer Complaint Resolution
We can independently help resolve disputes and complaints with the help of our laboratory facilities, research groups, and consultants. Our special team of experts has a diverse background of knowledge, experience, and capabilities that you can trust and have confidence in. We can provide accurate and unbiased information about consumer complaints so that you have the ability to respond back to the consumer in a rapid, informed and equitable manner.

Northland Laboratories follows current standard testing methods such as: AOAC, AOCS, ASTA, ASBC, FDA-BAM, CMMEF, SMWWA, USDA, USP/NF. If standard methods are not available to meet your needs we will partner with you to research, develop, and implement one that will.
